We talk a lot about different types of experiences in countries around the world, but it\u2019s about time we looked a little closer to home. Tinggly is based in Lithuania, and although you\u2019ve maybe heard of our famous capital, Vilnius, we\u2019d like to introduce you a little deeper into what makes our country so special. Here are seven unusual attractions in Lithuania that will take you off the tourist trail\u2026<\/p>\n

The Museum for the Blind<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kaunas<\/strong><\/p>\n

You won\u2019t see much at this museum in the catacombs of St. Michael the Archangel Church, but that\u2019s the whole point. It was created for blind and partially sighted people, with displays that can be explored using the senses of touch, smell and hearing. It includes models of cultural and architectural landmarks that can be discovered with the fingertips, and many more fascinating exhibits. Even if you\u2019re fully sighted, you\u2019ll be unable to see much as the catacombs are so dark.<\/p>\n

Admission to the Museum for the Blind is free, and it is open weekdays. A guided tour is highly recommended.<\/p>\n

The K\u016blgrindas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Samogitia Region<\/strong><\/p>\n

K\u016blgrindas are ancient stony roads that were built centuries ago across swampy areas of the country. Their primary purpose was to help locals escape in case of invasion, but today they serve more as an interesting cultural attraction. There are guided tours of K\u016blgrindas available, which provide beautiful scenery and plenty of muddy fun as you negotiate bogs between links in the road.<\/p>\n

The Cold War Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zemaitija National Park<\/strong><\/p>\n

Close to the Baltic Sea and the border with Latvia, the Zemaitija National Park is one of our most popular tourism destinations, with a wealth of trails and cultural attractions to entertain. For a unique diversion, you can visit this chilling Cold War exhibition in an old Soviet missile complex, where nuclear warheads were once stored. You can wander through abandoned silos as you learn about Lithuania\u2019s Cold War history.<\/p>\n

The Pyramid of Merkine<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dz\u016bkija Forest<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hidden deep inside this national park is a glass dome, inside of which is a pyramid. It is said that this structure marks the location where a young boy experienced a miracle. The boy grew up and built the pyramid, and it has now become a pilgrimage site for followers of New Age faiths. You can meditate here, or be amazed at the incredible amplifications inside the dome of even the tiniest of noises.<\/p>\n

The Dead Dunes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Curonian Spit<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the \u2018Dead Dunes\u201d are actually home to a very much alive and active range of rare and unusual plants. This protected area close to Russia is where you will find the tallest migrating sand dunes in Europe, which have over the centuries buried several villages.<\/p>\n

Various guided tours of the Curonian Spit are available, and although you need to stick to the marked trails around the Dead Dunes, there is much more to see besides in this rugged, undeveloped landscape, including deer and wild boar.<\/p>\n

The Hill of Witches<\/strong><\/p>\n

Very close to the Curonian Spit, the Hill of Witches is an outdoor sculpture gallery with around 80 wood-carved sculptures depicting fol art and pagan tradition. It is free to enter and there are a number of scenic trails to walk.\"The

Most visitors to Lithuania will arrive in the capital, Vilnius, and of course the one must-see attraction is the medieval Old Town, with its spectacular architecture ranging from baroque to to gothic, renaissance and Neoclassical.
