As part of our ongoing series of articles introducing our activity partners from around the world it gives us great pleasure to welcome Leon Robles the CEO of Wild Canyon Adventures who has kindly offered to answer some of our questions.
Leon is responsible for the incredible bungee jump from a glass floor gondola that takes place over the fabulous El Tule Canyon near Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. If you want to know just what this awesome experience entails then check out this video that’s all about the 1, 2, 3 bungeeee!
Hi Leon, could you give us some more details about your personal and company background?
After 17 years of traveling and doing extreme sports events and fairs around Mexico, plus working with Televisa producing Big Brother Mexico and Fear Factor, my wife (Cristina Ortiz) and I decided to create the best adventure park possible in Los Cabos bcs. So we came ready to work hard in order to realise our dream.
What are your hobbies?
I love loads of extreme and active sports, including: surfing, hobbie cat sailing, stand up paddling, skydiving and bungee jumping. I also play the ukelele and go camping and traveling whenever possible.
What’s your favorite weekend activity?
Camping and looking for waves on my paddle or surf board.
Why did you start your business? What attracted you to it? What are the story behind it?
I have always being interested in extreme sports ever since I was a kid. I used to skateboard and go mountain hiking and climbing with my dad. I also love to build things and I see the building of the park as a very creative opportunity in my life and just what I want to be doing.
What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile?
As I always say I have to drive every day to the park to be sure it’s not just a dream! I love the process of making it happen as well as being able to see people enjoying themselves in a safe and fun environment. Selling experiences makes me very happy.
What would you advise to keep a healthy work / life balance?
I love what I do so, for me, going to work every day is already a blessing as well as being able to live in Cabo next to the ocean!!
What are your greatest stresses in your life and how you deal with it?
Well every job has its risks so you have to be very professional in what you do in order to make sure you and your guests are happy and safe. The stress, of course, diminishes knowing that we are able to provide safe and secure experiences to all our guests.
What is your favorite travel destination and why?
I have many places that I love to visit however, if I have to choose only one then it has to be Mexico. We have everything: different cultures, a varied climate, the scenery – I love my country!
Anything else you’d like to add?
I love what I do so much that the biggest reward is the opportunity of making it happen.
Thanks very much for your time Leon. It sounds like you’re really loving what you do and the way you live your life in Mexico.
