Tinggly Team was always amazed by the surprising places that can be visited completely free: parks, gardens, beaches and many more! This week we asked our ambassadors: “What is the best free places to visit?”.
We present you top places, which can be visited for free.
Gemma and Craig – Two Scots Abroad
There are many but Stanley Park in Vancouver is up there. You can walk, rollerskate or cycle around the sea wall which passes through lots of beaches where locals play volleyball. Such a nice place to be. I want to live in Vancouver in the future. BC is where it’s at.
Stephanie – Quarter Life Epiphany
The Baha’I Gardens of Haifa, Israel. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and it is free to visit and free to take the guided tour.
Perri – Where is Per
Good ole’ Mother Nature (obviously!) – The haute mountains, a sandy beach, where ever! Lift tickets may cost an arm and a leg, but there is always the option to hike from the bottom to the top of a mountain – hard work pays off! Maybe you are not in the mountains and last night’s cocktail bar may have your wallet feeling skinny, but nothing that sleeping on a beach can’t fix. Maybe it is a city break you’re looking for, in that case, wander around cobblestone streets, turn off google maps and get lost. You’ll find the best Instagram photos that way anyways.
Jess – Mismatched Knitwear
Since I’ve been living in Sydney, my fave free places to go are the beaches and some of the amazing parks. I know they’re pretty obvious places to go but the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee and the walks you can do in the Botanical Gardens are must-do’s for anyone visiting the city. You can thank me later, thrifty travellers!
Tihana – Wandering Polka Dot
Of course, this depends on what you’re into. I would just opt for walking in one of my favorite cities, like London, Berlin, Rome or Amsterdam, because there’s nothing I love more than slowing down the pace, walking aimlessly and taking in the city. If you’re in Berlin, though, you might want to visit what I’ve been calling The Hipster Kingdom, it’s a really cool former train station, called the Urban Spree, that now serves as a home to several cafes, a huge hall where sometimes vintage or food markets are held, then there’s a skating hall and a lot of street art (and street art in Berlin is really something!). People watching: for free. It might be compared to Camden Lock in London (another favorite of mine), but it has its own unique spirit.
Natasha – The Boho Chica
I find that depending on your tastes, there are plenty of free attractions and activities in every place. I love to hike and I often find that there are no entrance fees required and I have the trail almost all to myself. In the cities, my favorite free thing to do is explore different neighborhoods and markets.

So many come to mind, but my top three would have to be, Lake Tekapo in Tekapo New Zealand with its breathtaking beauty, walking through The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey and the Lello Book Store in Porto, Portugal, which is said to have inspired the Hogwarts Stairway, where you could almost expect the books to sprout wings and start flying across the store.

Parks! I love getting lost in parks. Buen Retiro in Madrid is my favorite. Don’t get discouraged by the local youths making out and getting too touchy with each other on the front lawn.
Laura – Savored Journeys
Washington DC takes the prize for the best free places to visit. All of the incredible, world-class Smithsonian museums are completely free to visit. You could spend weeks there touring through all the museums and they aren’t your run-of-the-mill boring museums. I’m not really into museums much, but I will always make an exception for the Smithsonian museums.
Stay tuned for part two with even more places!
