Funaya, also known as "boat houses" or "fishermen's dwellings," are traditional Japanese houses found in coastal regions, particularly in places like Ine Town in Kyoto Prefecture and Funaya no Sato in Tango Peninsula. These unique houses are built over the water, with the first floor serving as a boat garage for the family's fishing boat, while the second floor functions as living quarters. The design of funaya is practical, as it allows fishermen easy access to their boats and protects them from the elements. Funaya are typically constructed with a wooden framework and have a distinctive appearance with their sloping roofs and wooden decks extending over the water. Today, some funaya have been converted into guesthouses or restaurants, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional coastal life in Japan. Tickets are self-paid: JPY1,000 for adults, JPY500 for children, and a pack of seagull bait is JPY100. If the cruise is suspended due to rough waves, you will be free to take a walk.
