Wat Mahathatbuilt in the 13th century, it is one of the oldest and most significant temples in the history of Ayutthaya, housing the Buddha's holy relic.

Wat Yai Chaya Mongkolalso known as the "Great Monastery of Auspicious Victory," this temple features a high prang (tower) dominating the area. Built in the second half of the 14th century during the reign of King U Thong, it remains active with monks living on the premises. The large chedi, built at the end of the 16th century, gave the monastery its current name. Destroyed in 1767, it has since been restored and is a great place to visit.
