Overview
Golconda is an old fortified and ruined city west of Hyderabad. Between 1512 and 1687 it was the capital of the sultanate of the same name. Enjoy during the tour the fascinating views of the Baradari plains and the royal necropolis. The outer wall of the fort stretches over 8km with 87 semicircular bastions and 8 gates. In 1687 it fell by treason to the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, later it was used as a prison. Your visit in the morning provides perfect weather conditions to climb the 360 steps oneway.
Huge blocks of cut stone butting onto natural outcrops of granite, with several buildings for living, treasury, harems, mosques, baghs, baths and barracks. The Royal Necropolis is located Northwest of the fort, at Banjara Gate. Mostly from the Qutb Shahi period, large tombs have their own mosques.
