Mua CavesDespite its name, the main highlight of Hang Mua is not the cave itself, but the viewpoint at the top of Ngoa Long Mountain (meaning "Lying Dragon Mountain"). To reach the summit, visitors must climb nearly 500 stone steps that wind their way steeply up the mountainside. The climb can be challenging, especially under the sun, but the reward is well worth the effort. At the top, you'll be greeted with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape: lush rice paddies, the winding Ngo Dong River, limestone karsts rising from the earth like ancient guardians, and small villages tucked peacefully among the fields. On clear days, the scenery stretches endlessly in all directions – a photographer’s dream and a perfect spot for drone footage or Instagram shots.

Trang An Landscape ComplexThe highlight of Trang An is the serene sampan boat tour, where local rowers take visitors through a network of rivers, caves, and temples nestled between towering karst formations. The journey lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours, covering over 10 natural caves such as Dark Cave, Bright Cave, Wine-Making Cave, Si Cave, as well as historical and spiritual sites like Trinh Temple, Khong Palace, and Suoi Tien Temple. Each cave has its own charm, with fascinating stalactites and rock formations shaped over millions of years. Wine-Making Cave (Hang Nấu Rượu) is said to be the place where ancient people made wine for the kings, with remnants of jars and tools found during excavations.

Hoa Lu temples of the Dinh & Le DynastiesHoa Lu served as Vietnam’s first capital in the 10th century under the Dinh and Early Le dynasties. Protected by limestone mountains and rivers, the area was chosen for its strategic location and natural defenses. This historic site played a crucial role in unifying the country after centuries of Chinese domination. Today, visitors can explore the temples of King Dinh Tien Hoang and King Le Dai Hanh, which stand on the original palace grounds. These structures are built in traditional Vietnamese style, featuring wooden beams, intricate carvings, and tiled roofs. Though modest in size, they are rich in historical value, offering insights into Vietnam’s early monarchy and national identity. Strolling through the peaceful countryside of Hoa Lu, with its rice fields and mountain backdrops, feels like stepping back in time to a pivotal era in Vietnamese history.
