Senso-ji TempleLegend has it that in 628 AD, fishermen found a statue of Guanyin in the Sumida River, and built Senso-ji Temple to enshrine the statue. The temple has a huge red lantern with the Chinese characters "Thunder Gate" written on it. As a symbol of Asakusa, it attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to take photos. It is nearly 4 meters high and weighs 700 kilograms, which is very impressive. On both sides of the Thunder Gate are statues of the God of Wind and the God of Thunder.
