Getaway gifts that promise memorable hotel stays around the world have long been a popular way to treat someone. But in 2020 they really came into their own. This was a year like no other, and one when so many of us were in desperate need of positive thoughts of better days to come.
At Tinggly, we’re huge fans of hotel gifts for many reasons. But the most important is our love of travel. We’ve launched our range of unique getaway gifts based on the feedback of our customers. Something that we all have in common is the joy of visiting new places, of experiencing the world in different ways, of exploring cultures, cuisines and landmarks distant from our own. When you gift a getaway, you’re planting the seed of an idea in someone’s head: where should I go next and what will I do while I’m there?
But of course – we’re Tinggly, and as you might expect, a getaway gift box from us is a little different to what you’ll find elsewhere. Read on to find out how our getaway gift ideas work, and why these make the perfect gift for anyone, and any occasion…
What are getaway gifts?
The clue is in the name. Our hotel stay collections are an invitation to enjoy a short break – they offer a huge choice of hotel stays for two people, for either one, two or three nights – the perfect weekend getaway.
Unlike most hotel gifts however, with Tinggly you don’t choose the accommodation for the recipient. Just like with our experience gifts, it’s always the recipient that decides. All you’re doing is giving them the fun of choosing.
Each of our unique getaway gifts offers recipients their choice of over handpicked 2000 hotels, in more than 100 countries around the world.
They can go wherever they want, whenever they want, either using their getaway gift card on a trip they already have planned or booked, or using it to create an entirely new itinerary around.
And of course we make it so easy for everyone. You select the getaway gift you want to buy, they decide where and when to go, and we make the reservation for them.
Hotel stay gifts with no expiry dates
Besides the fact that a Tinggly getaway gift gives recipients their choice of an incredible 2000-plus hotels across the world, what makes them so special is their expiry dates. Specifically, the fact that there aren’t any.
Since Covid 19 shook up the travel industry, we know that people are looking for greater confidence when they go away.
So while all hotel stay gifts have terms and conditions, with Tinggly the one you really need to know about is that they’re always valid – whether used next month, next year, or years from now. That means, if the recipient’s travel plans have to change, if they lose their gift card at the back of a drawer, or they pin it to the fridge and forget about it for a while – you can still be sure your gift will come in useful at some point.
Why should I buy getaway gifts for my friends and family?
Ideal for any occasion
There are many reasons you might buy getaways for the people in your life that are special to you. A romantic getaway is a fantastic idea for couples to celebrate a wedding, an anniversary, or Valentine’s Day, for instance. But they’re also perfectly suitable for birthdays, Christmas, Diwali or any celebration where you need an interesting gift idea.
Saving you time and stress
Not all of us are lucky enough to have the knack of finding the perfect gift every time. In fact, most of us struggle, especially on big occasions. And whether browsing online or wandering around the shops, it can take a lot of time to find a gift. Buy a gift getaway from Tinggly, however, and you can be done in just a couple of minutes. It takes little more than a couple of clicks to select, purchase and send on its way a hotel gift card that someone will love – a great solution especially for last-minute gift ideas.
Certainty
If you want to buy someone a hotel stay gift, you can’t always be sure of where they’d like to go, or what type of property they’d like to stay in. But with getaway gifts from Tinggly, you can be 100% certain that they’ll find just the right thing for their own plans. Because it’s up to them. Essentially, it’s an entire world of inspiration in one gift box.
No clutter
Most of us, when we think about it, have more than enough stuff in our lives already. We don’t really need anything else. If you look around your own home you’ll probably find cupboards and drawers filled with clutter, and it’s true that so many gifts we receive every year are unwanted, unnecessary, and go unused. So buying getaways as gifts is a way of reducing waste while still giving someone a meaningful present.
Not everyone loves Airbnb
Airbnb and similar platforms are not always the best option for overnight stays. Many people prefer the convenience of hotels, the guarantee that everything will be just right, and can be fixed immediately if not. We don’t all need our own kitchen, or feel comfortable staying in someone else’s home. And Airbnb of course has led to many problems in popular destinations with locals not able to find homes to rent or to buy. Sometimes hotels are simply better for short breaks.
Corporate gift ideas
Getaway gifts can also make for smart corporate gift ideas. If you need something unique to celebrate Christmas, a big contract, or just to reward staff for their efforts, then nothing says Thank You like the opportunity to get away and have some fun. And because Tinggly getaway gifts allow recipients to select from thousands of hotels around the world, they are useful gift ideas for remote workers perhaps separated from their head office by long distances.
Helping the travel industry
Last but not least, your getaway gifts help the travel industry recover from the devastating effects of Covid 19. Hotel stays have been favourite gift ideas for a long time, but 2020 was the year they really took off. During months of lockdown many people around the world were able to slightly escape the boredom by picturing their future travels, where they would go once destinations opened up again.
So when you buy getaways as gifts, you’re also contributing to the travel industry itself, which employs millions of people directly and indirectly. A hotel stay translates to money spent in the destination on transport, food, drink, entertainment, and so boosts the local economy.
Where can I stay with Tinggly getaway gifts?
It would probably be easier to list the places you can’t stay. Our one-night Minibreak for two people encompasses more than 100 different countries across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Oceania. Meanwhile, our two and three-night getaway gift boxes focus on capital cities around the world, again with more than 100 to choose from. Here’s a few ideas we suggest:

And of course while our unique getaway gifts are always for two people to share, there’s nothing to say they need be used only by couples. Two friends could use a gift card for a weekend of shopping and socialising in Amsterdam, Edinburgh or Paris. Mums and daughters could book a spa hotel for a pre-wedding celebration perhaps. With a getaway gift for a man, fathers and sons could use it to catch a football match somewhere in Europe and then enjoy an extended stay.
