Derinkuyu YeraltI SehriDerinkuyu Underground City is one of the largest and deepest underground cities in Cappadocia. Descending up to 60 meters and with 8 levels open to visitors, the city has the capacity to accommodate thousands of people. It is believed to have been initially built by the Hittites and later used by Christians during the Roman and Byzantine periods as a shelter and defense refuge. It is equipped with kitchens, stables, a church, meeting rooms, and water wells. The ventilation system and water resources were designed to make long-term habitation possible in the city.
