The Citadel was first an idea and built by King Christian IV. It is one of the best-preserved fortresses in Northern Europe and the oldest military bastion still in use. Until the 1800s, the Citadel served as a working defence installation; today, it houses the Danish Defence Intelligence and the Home Guard.

The Little MermaidThe statue of the Little Mermaid, from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, has been situated on the Copenhagen Harbourside for over a hundred years now. She was made by the Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen, who used his own wife as the model.

Amalienborg Palace MuseumToday, Amalienborg is the Royal Family's official residence. Former Queen Margrethe lives in the palace on the left, closest to the waterfront.
