Join your host Leon for an intimate walk, talk, and dig for opal in Coober Pedy’s safe public noodling area on Jeweller’s Shop Rd—once a working opal field! This private guided tour is perfect for individuals, couples, families, or small groups. You'll learn local history and fun facts about the area while exploring 50-year-old mullock heaps where guests have recently found opal worth up to ~$2,000. Each guest receives a full opal hunting kit (included from our Gear Hire activity) and a hands-on lesson in how to use it. The tour starts near the picnic tables and parking area, then heads into the field where Leon shares his tips and stories. After the dig, you’ll return to clean and inspect your finds, receive glass vials for your best chips, and a small kit to further clean rough pieces. You’ll also get advice on where in town to have your opals appraised or professionally cut—perfect if you want to turn your discoveries into jewellery!
