Overview
Your tour begins with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. After that, you climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River. You’ll enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. Afterward, you take a stroll around the city to visit Big Brother Mouse, which is the most famous bookshop in Laos. The next stop is Ock Pop Tock, meaning East Meets West, where you can learn about the traditional weaving in Laos. You continue to visit Wat Visoun, dating back to 1513 during the reign of King Wisunarat (Visoun), this is Luang Prabang’s oldest temple and was once home to the Prabang Buddhas. Stroll around to visit Wat Aham, which was once the residence of Sangkharat, the supreme head of Lao Buddhism.
Afternoon, you’ll visit to the Arts and Ethnology Centre to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures before a visit at Wat Siphouthabaht to admire the sunset, the really peaceful place to catch the last beauty of the day. End of day, your guide brings you to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hill-tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.
