Kampong Phluk is a mesmerizing cluster of three villages built on towering stilts within the floodplain of Tonle Sap Lake, just 16 km southeast of Siem Reap, Cambodia. This hidden gem offers a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of over 3,000 inhabitants, who adapt to the lake’s dramatic seasonal changes. A Village That Transforms with the Seasons: Dry Season (Nov–May): As the water recedes, the towering 6–8 meter stilt houses stand tall, revealing the wooden poles beneath. Many villagers move onto the lake, setting up floating houses until the rains return. Wet Season (Jun–Oct): As the Tonle Sap Lake expands, the water level rises, turning the village into a true floating community. The flooded mangrove forests surrounding the village become a sanctuary for wildlife, including crab-eating macaques and a variety of fish and birds.
