Overview
Explore one of the most important economic, social, and cultural centers in Western Romania during this comprehensive 3-hour walking tour. You will start your day with a pick-up from your hotel in central Oradea and you will continue on foot to the city fortress. Recently renovated with European funds, this fortress was first time mentioned in 1113 and over the centuries was conquered by Tatars, Turks, and Habsburg Empire.
Then, you will visit the central part of the town. Admire the Secession-style buildings, an architectural trend common in many cities that belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of the 20th century. You will learn more about the characteristics and the differences in the styles while pointing out examples of Baroque, Neo-Classic, Eclectic, Neo-Gothic, and Neo-Romanesque architecture in the city.
