Suiboku-ga is a discipline under the Japanese ink painting art of Sumi-e, known for its unique technique of mixing water with ink to enhance texture and depth. This workshop, led by award-winning calligrapher Rensui, takes place in a traditional Japanese teahouse.

Suiboku-ga is a form of Sumi-e ink painting which uses washes of ink to create texture and contrast and is one of the only types of painting styles that does not use numerous layers of paint.
Suiboku-ga is said to be a painting technique from the heart, as its simplicity allows one's heart to be reflected directly in the painting. It is filled with the Japanese aesthetic sense and spirituality. In this workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of Suiboku-ga and embrace Zen spirit.
This introductory course puts you the student under the tutelage of award-winning artist Rensui, who will teach simple methods of painting, such as finishing with a single brushstroke. At booking, you will get to choose which object you'd like to paint on, so get ready to move that brush. Your finished work will become a souvenir to take home or give as a gift to friends and family. A theme will be chosen from one of the following types of paintings: pine, bamboo, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, and Chinese "kanji" characters.
