Full day pass to thermal spa "Hells Gate" in New Zealand
Overview
Named “Hells Gate” by the author George Bernard Shaw who was amazed by its primeval landscape and raw geothermal power, this park contains New Zealand’s largest active mud volcano and the hottest waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere, where Maori warriors would come to heal their wounds after the battle. See the twin mud pools named Sodom and Gomorrah, fascinating examples of land coral, and beautiful sulfur crystals.
The medicinal and curative properties of the mud in Hells Gate have been known for centuries. After a walk around the reserve, you’ll enjoy a mud bath which detoxifies and regenerates the skin. Afterward sink into a sulfur spa, increasing blood circulation and soothing and softening the skin even further. You’ll feel like a new person emerging from this incredible spa experience.

The chemical makeup of our muds and waters will tarnish most jewellery, particularly silver. We recommend removing it and waiting 24 – 48 hours to put it back on.
Your swimwear and towels will have a sulphur smell to them after your experience and will need to be cleaned thoroughly. We recommend using old swimwear, or if you have any concerns to hire or buy from Hell’s Gate, subject to availability.
The minimum age for the mud baths is 2.5 years of age, whereas for the sulphur spa is 6 months of age. Children must be aged 12 and over to participate in the carving
The mud bath has a time-limit of 20 minutes once a day for health and safety reasons.
