We stop at a vantage point to view Caldbec Hill, where the Anglo-Saxon army camped the night before the battle. Here you will learn the background to the conflict.

St Mary the Virgin ChurchThis church was founded by the Abbey monks in 1102. We will take a look inside the church unless there is a service in progress.

Battle Abbey and BattlefieldInside the abbey there will be time for an optional toilet and refreshment stop (price not included). We will then walk to the position acknowledged to be the ridge where Harold placed his shield wall. We will then walk the perimeter of the battlefield. Along the way you will learn the full story of the events of 1066 and information about the battle tactics used by both sides. After walking the battlefield we will see the place where Harold fell. The tour ends with a visit to the Abbey ruins.
