Wingfield Estate Sugar Plantation RuinsLocated in the historic town of Old Road. Wingfield Estate is located at the base of our island’s central mountain range surrounded by a lush mountain slope. This national park includes the Wingfield rainforest that holds the Wingfield watershed which provides up to ¾ of our island's water supply. This site highlights some of the property's original crops -tobacco & indigo, and showcases the process of harvesting and preserving sugar cane. The rich history of this site educates about the function of animal-driven, water-driven, and eventually steam-driven methods of crushing the cane.
