  • Joya de Ceren Archaeological Park
Joya de Cerén is a Mayan archaeological site dating to the Classic period, located in the district of San Juan Opico, municipality of La Libertad. It was abandoned around 660 AD due to the eruption of the Loma Caldera volcano. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mesoamerica because it offers a glimpse into the daily lives of ordinary people. For this reason, it is often called the Pompeii of the Americas.
  • San Andrés is a pre-Hispanic archaeological park of the Mayan culture located in the jurisdiction of Ciudad Arce in the department of La Libertad, El Salvador. It was the capital of a Mayan kingdom that held supremacy over the other settlements in the Zapotitán Valley and was strongly influenced by Copán.
