Agios Nektarios MonasteryIt is one of the largest orthodox monasteries in Greece and throughout the Balkans. The Holy Trinity Monastery with the church of Agios Nektarios is one of the top sights in Aegina. It attracts believers who want to worship, pray, and heal. Whether you are a fan of religious tourism or not, it is worth visiting if you are on the island. Agios Nektarios is one of the modern saints of the Orthodox Church and has performed miracles as long as he lived. The monastery that exists today functioned in 1904 when he wanted a place to spend his last years. He settled on the island 12 years before his death, while the monastery was already operating by some nuns. He was proclaimed Saint 40 years after his death because of his ecclesiastical work. Just down of the Monastery there is the new church of Saint Nektarios, one of the biggest churches in Balkans. The enormous octagonal church completed in 1999, has superb mosaics and marble carving.

Temple of AphaiaThe Temple of Aphaia built on a hill, at 160 meters, it is surrounded by pine trees and it stands out for its unique energy. Since prehistoric times it has been a unique place of worship. But it was during the Archaic period that the sanctuary flourished, when three temples were built in succession at the same spot, with the last one still standing today. Was built between 500-490 BC on top of the previous temple, which suffered damages after a fire in 510 BC. The Aegineans therefore decided to tear it down and rebuild a new one that would display the works of the “Aeginean” School of sculpture. The new temple took its final form in 500 BC and is an excellent sample of archaic architecture. The temple was well known since antiquity for its pediments, which adorned both of its narrow sides. The Temple of Aphaia with the Parthenon and the Temple of Sounion form an imaginary isosceles triangle (the sacred triangle of antiquity )
