  • Citadel of Qaitbay
    Sultan Abu al-Nasr Sayf al-Din al-Ashraf Qaitbay (c. 1416/1418 – August 7, 1496) was the eighteenth Sultan of the Burji Mamluks. Born Circassian, he was purchased by Sultan Barsbay and later freed by Sultan Jaqmaq. During his reign, he stabilized the Mamluk state and strengthened its northern borders against the Ottomans.
