Ancient Bhaja caves exploration guided tour from Pune
Overview
Delve deep into history, when you proceed to visit the ancient Bhaja Caves today. Even after all these years, the ceiling still has remains of wooden beams. There are quite a few intriguing windows, balconies and other structures here. There are roughly 22 rock-cut caves here, dating back to the 2nd century BC. The top highlight of these caves is an astoundingly large shrine called chaityagriha. Buddha images adorn this chaityagriha. The caves also feature 14 stupas – these belonged to the monks who lived and breathed their last here. Different sculptures as well as inscriptions can be clearly seen in most of the caves. The caves even offer a historical introduction of the tabla – an Indian percussion musical instrument – carvings dating right back to 200 BCE depict a woman playing the tabla. These caves will definitely pique your curiosity.
