Lake Askja and the crater Víti are both located within the caldera in the highlands of Iceland. Askja is situated in the mountains Dyngjufjöll and features a deep lake along with geothermal water.

- 💧 Bathing in the crater's geothermal water is sometimes suitable, though access can be difficult.
- 🚶♂️ The path down to the crater is often impassable due to its steepness.
- 🏜️ The journey to the caldera traverses Ódáðahraun, Iceland's largest desert.
- ❄️ Travel includes views along the glacier river Jökulsá á Fjöllum.
