  • Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Wat Chaiwatthanaram is one of the most impressive temples in Ayutthaya, built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong. The temple features a beautiful Khmer-style design, highlighted by a tall central prang symbolizing Mount Meru, the center of the universe in Buddhist cosmology. Surrounding the main tower are smaller prangs and galleries once filled with Buddha images, creating a grand and symmetrical layout. The temple was used for royal ceremonies before being damaged during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. Today, its well-preserved ruins offer visitors a glimpse into the glory of the ancient kingdom, and it is especially popular for its breathtaking views at sunset.
  • Wat Mahathat
Wat Mahathat is one of the most important temples in the ancient city of Ayutthaya, believed to have been built in the 14th century during the early Ayutthaya Kingdom. The temple once served as a religious center and housed sacred relics of the Buddha. Today, it is best known for the famous Buddha head entwined in the roots of a banyan tree, a unique and iconic image of Thailand. Although much of the temple was destroyed during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, its atmospheric ruins and historical significance make it a must-visit site for travelers interested in Thai history and culture.
  • Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the most important royal temple in the Ayutthaya Kingdom, built in the 15th century within the grounds of the former royal palace. Unlike other temples, it had no resident monks and was used exclusively for royal ceremonies. The temple is best known for its three iconic bell-shaped chedis, which housed the ashes of Ayutthaya kings. Although heavily damaged during the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, its elegant layout and historical importance make it one of the most impressive and must-visit landmarks in the ancient city.
  • Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Lokayasutharam)
Discover the timeless charm of Ayutthaya at Wat Lokayasutharam, home to one of Thailand’s most impressive outdoor Reclining Buddha statues. Measuring approximately 37 meters in length, this serene and graceful image rests peacefully under the open sky, offering a truly unique and photogenic experience. The calm expression of the Buddha reflects a sense of peace and enlightenment, making it a meaningful stop for travelers seeking both culture and tranquility. Located within the UNESCO-listed Ayutthaya Historical Park, the temple’s ancient ruins create a beautiful contrast between history and spirituality. Though much of the original structure has faded over time, the atmosphere remains captivating and authentic. A visit to Wat Lokayasutharam is perfect for those looking to explore Thailand’s rich heritage while enjoying a relaxed and unforgettable sightseeing experience.
  • Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya, once the capital of Thailand, was founded in 1350 by King King Ramathibodi I. Strategically located between three rivers, the city quickly became one of the most prosperous trading hubs in Asia, welcoming merchants from Europe, China, Japan, and the Middle East. For over 400 years, Ayutthaya flourished as a center of culture, diplomacy, and commerce, with magnificent palaces and temples that reflected the kingdom’s power and sophistication. The golden era came to an end in 1767, when the city was destroyed during the war with Burma (Myanmar), leaving behind the iconic ruins seen today. Despite its fall, Ayutthaya remains a powerful symbol of Thailand’s rich heritage and resilience. Today, the historic city is preserved as the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors from around the world who come to explore its ancient temples, learn its history, and experience the legacy of one of Southeast Asia’s greatest kingdoms.
