Overview
Step back to more than 500 years in time and explore the rich and often-overlooked history of African ancestry in Panama. This 2.5 hours walking tour covers from the harsh realities of slavery during the colonial era to the significant West Indian migrations that shaped the isthmus.
We will start our journey in Casco Antiguo, walking beyond the former walls that divided the elite from the working-class communities during the colonial era. We will then go through the Central Avenue until we make our way to the Afro Antillean Museum, where we will explore in more detail the life, labor, and contributions of the West Indian migrants.
This tour is an invitation to discover, understand, remember, and honor the shadows and lights (challenges and triumphs) of African ancestors enduring legacy in Panama.

Afro-Antillian Museum (Museo Afro Antillano de Panama )This former small chapel, now transformed into a museum, has so much history. It also features a beautiful outdoor mural that narrates the life and labor of West Indians in the Isthmus of Panama.
