Overview

The Boos and Brews Walking Ghost Tour uncovers Boothbay Harbor’s unexplained past with eerie events told from a local’s perspective. We combine spine-tingling tales told in picturesque locations with a visit to the Footbridge Brewery for craft beer and barbeque! Your local guide tells ghostly tales about the harbor’s most haunted old sea captain’s homes, Boothbay Harbor’s very own sea serpent, and the spooky legends that surround many of the harbor’s islands. We’ll wrap up our walk on the weird side at the Footbridge Brewery where you can enjoy beautiful harbor views along with a craft beer flight, brewed with all locally sourced Maine ingredients, and Bridge House barbeque.

  • Stroll along America’s longest wooden footbridge and enjoy spectacular harbor views. Why is Boothbay Harbor so haunted? We’ll discuss some of the theories about the Boothbay region being considered a thin place, starting with the Burnt Island Lighthouse at the harbor’s entrance with its long history of lighthouse keepers—some who never really left the island.
  • Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library
On a cold December afternoon, a mysterious stranger dressed all in black checked into the Hotel Fullerton and headed out for a glimpse of ocean surf. Her identity and untimely end are still unsolved mysteries almost 100 years after her body was retrieved from the ocean and buried in an unmarked grave on Southport Island.
  • First stop on Ghost Row...this is one haunted street! Beginning with Minnie’s ghost at Captain Sawyer’s Inn and Kaler’s disembodied torso and dancing girl, we’ll start our exploration of spirited Commercial Street!
  • We continue our tour of spirited Commercial Street with stories about Mr. Duffy at the Admiral’s Quarters Inn who only wants a little peace and quiet to the former (and some say, current) captain of the tugboat Maine who is still seen as its helm today.
  • Boothbay Harbor
Tour owner has a personal connection with Ghost Row—her vacation rental is haunted by a couple in the basement. There’s also a portal in the attic sleeping loft closet…Call me, My Ghost Story!
  • Whale Park
Here Be Monsters. We’ll discuss some classic seafarer superstitions and Boothbay Harbor Sea Serpent sightings, accounts of unknown creatures sighted by hundreds of respectable people up and down the Maine and Massachusetts coastline and known collectively as The Great New England Sea Serpent.
  • What do Queen Elizabeth I, a ring, and Outer Heron Island have in common? Would you believe the claim on the $1 billion dollar dukedom? This legendary island boats a bunch of ghost, buried treasure, and the lost grave of an English nobleman.
  • Footbridge Brewery
One of the early pillars of this community was brutally murdered at home after an act of kindness. His home was run as the Kenniston Hill Inn for many years and notoriously haunted as featured on an episode of A&E’s My Ghost Story.
