Shodō, or Japanese calligraphy, is the traditional art of expressing words and emotions with brush and ink.
Unlike simple handwriting, every stroke in shodō carries beauty, balance, and spirit.

In this experience, you will learn the basics of shodō using brushes handmade in Kumano, Hiroshima – Japan’s most famous brush-making town. I will explain the history and techniques of Japanese calligraphy, then guide you step by step. You’ll first practice basic strokes, then write your own name in kanji.

At the end of the session, you will transform your writing into a unique souvenir – such as a T-shirt, suitcase belt, or pouch – a perfect memory to take home.

No prior experience is required, and everyone is welcome – couples, families, or solo travelers.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity for photos and videos to share with friends.
