Overview
The real story of Paris is wine, and the wine history of Montmartre is perhaps the most compelling. Paris Wine Walks is the only wine tour company that includes vineyard visits with blind wine tastings. Living vines and living wines! We share the wine history of Paris and explain how wine built Paris, and was also the inspiration for Gothic Architecture. Montmartre is one of Paris' most picturesque quarters and climbing any of the 2207 steps to get there requires a certain energy, but its worth the effort! The village of Montmartre has preserved its rural charm and so a walk along its historic streets makes one feel as if they're in a country village. Our walks are convivial, pedagogical, entertaining and original. Join us, and 'Take a walk on the vine side!'

Tour guide

Human tour guide
- There is no Clos Montmartre wine in 2025 because of a particularly wet 2024, so instead, we will blind taste a living white and two living red wines accompanied by rustic bread and cheese.
Meeting point
Meet in front of Église Saint-Pierre, behind Sacré-Cœur near Place du Tertre, across from La Bohème Café. It takes at least 15 min to walk up from nearby metros. We recommend Lamarck-Caulaincourt, which has an elevator from the train to street level and the fewest stairs.
Return details
-
Eglise Saint-Pierre de MontmartreBuilt on the site of a Roman Temple, this is the second oldest church in Paris. Inside there are Roman columns recovered from the temple to Mars that once stood here. This church was part of the Abbey of Montmartre, and was surrounded by vineyards.
-
This Cafe was a meeting place for the community of artists who inhabited Montmartre and its inner courtyard was painted by Van Gogh.
-
Commanderie du Clos-MontmartreThe Commanderie du Clos was once a water tower and is now the headquarters of one of the only wine fraternities in Paris.
-
Le Passe-MurailleThis bronze sculpture of a man walking through or caught in a wall is a reference to a book by Marcel Aymé who lived on this square.
-
The windmills of Montmartre once milled grains from the surrounding fields and the Moulin de la Galette became associated with a small brown bread called a 'galette' that was served by the Debray family of millers with a glass of milk
-
Square Suzanne-BuissonA statue of Saint-Denis can be seen in this little park, whose entrance is adorned with a grape vine about 30 metres long. This is an opportunity to learn about the life of the vine, its cultivation, pruning, the astounding number of different grape varietals and the surprising number used in wine making.
-
Dalida StatueThe Place Dalida affords us a spectacular view of the rue de l'Abreuvoir leading up to the Butte Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur. It is also right next to the Chateau des Brouillards.
-
Musee de MontmartreThe Renoir Garden of the Musee de Montmartre provides the perfect vantage for an overview of the Clos Montmartre. It is from here that we will recount the history of the vineyard.
-
Vigne du Clos MontmartreThe most celebrated of Paris' intra-muros vineyards, the Clos Montmartre epitomises ‘the old Paris’ and contributes greatly to giving one the impression that they are far away from the madding crowds of the city. The walk recounts the wine history of Montmartre and the Abbey de Montmartre, and includes anecdotes about the artistic, literary, and cultural history of the village. There is a fine view of the Clos Montmartre vineyard from the parapet in the garden of the Musée de Montmartre and it is here, overlooking the vineyard, that we detail its history. Following the visit of the vineyard from the museum gardens, it is a short walk to our wine tasting on the Place du Tertre, the heartbeat of the Montmartre village. The wine tasting includes the very rare wine of the Clos Montmartre and a blind tasting of 2 additional wines - a white and a red. The wine tasting will be accompanied by shared plates of cheeses and rustic fermented bread.
-
Place Du TertreOur wine tasting takes place in one of the square's most renowned and authentic winebar bistros.
