Cruise and visit of Grosse-île
Overview
This excursion combines a scenic cruise on the St. Lawrence River with a guided tour of Grosse-Île, a pivotal immigration station from 1832 to 1937.
First, relax and enjoy the beauty of the St. Lawrence River on your way to the island, as the captains share their passion and knowledge. Hear stories of migrants, maritime heritage, and the island’s historic role, all while admiring the surrounding landscapes.
Once ashore, Parks Canada guides will lead you through preserved buildings, sweeping landscapes, and interactive exhibits. Visit the quarantine station, the Celtic Cross, and the Irish Memorial. Meet costumed interpreters who create vivid portrayals of daily life at the quarantine station. Their stories reveal hidden facets of Grosse-Île’s past in an engaging way.
During the excursion, you'll also have the chance to discover Grosse-Île largely untouched landscapes — a setting where nature and memory intertwine.
