Walking through this ancient evergreen canopy feels like stepping back in time. It’s an absolute haven for birdwatchers, hiding over 80 distinct bird species within its branches. The reserve features an excellent network of hiking trails, each offering a different perspective of the landscape. One of our favorite routes leads up to a stunning panoramic viewpoint. From the top, the contrast is incredible: you can look back at the distant skyline of Dar es Salaam while surrounded by miles of lush forest and a quiet, hidden lake below. If you're up for a bit of an adventure, we'll also take a trek out to the local cave system—famous for its massive resident bat colony and a fascinating look at the area's unique geology.
