Tucked between the twin bridges that link Nassau to Paradise Island, this bustling terminal is your launch point for some of the Bahamas' most memorable adventures on the water. From here, you can set off toward Blue Lagoon Island for dolphin and sea lion encounters, or join snorkeling, diving, and boating excursions into the sparkling waters off New Providence.
- Here's warm, second-person tour copy for Fort Montagu, verified against current sources: Fort Montagu Standing guard over the eastern entrance to Nassau Harbour, Fort Montagu is the oldest surviving fort on New Providence Island, built of local limestone back in 1741. It was raised to defend the young British colony against Spanish invaders, and it later played a memorable role during the American Revolution, when a 1776 raid saw the fort fall as American forces went hunting for the British gunpowder stored inside. Today it's a peaceful, uncrowded spot where you can walk the ramparts, admire the old cannons, and soak in sweeping views across the turquoise harbor toward Paradise Island. (pass by)
-
Fort FincastleCrowning Bennet's Hill at the highest point in Nassau, Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by the governor Lord Dunmore, who named it after his own noble title, Viscount Fincastle. Shaped like the bow of a paddle-wheel steamer, this striking little fortress was raised to guard the harbor against pirates and enemy fleets — though its cannons proved so imposing they were never once fired in battle. Reach it by climbing the famous Queen's Staircase, then step onto the ramparts for some of the finest panoramic views on the island, sweeping across the city, the harbor, and out to Paradise Island.
-
Bay StreetBay Street is the historic heart of Nassau — the island's oldest and liveliest thoroughfare, running right along the waterfront just steps from the cruise port. Here, pastel British colonial buildings house everything from duty-free jewelry, watches, and designer boutiques to the world-famous Straw Market, where hundreds of vendors sell handwoven bags, hats, and Bahamian crafts (bargaining encouraged!). Along the way you'll pass landmarks like Parliament Square with its pink colonial government buildings and statue of Queen Victoria, plus plenty of spots to sample local flavors and soak in the island's rhythm.
-
Atlantis CasinoThe highlight of Paradise Island is world famous Atlantis. Atlantis is a magnificent resort encompassing over 3,000 hotel rooms, 20 restaurants, a wide variety of stores, a 123-acre water park, beautiful beaches and the largest casino in the Bahamas. The total cost to construct Atlantis was over $2 billion. Your tour will make a short stop at Atlantis where you will have free time to explore the amazing lobby, casino, or the shops. After your free time, you will be driven back to your ship.
- Standing sentinel at the western tip of Paradise Island, this whitewashed tower with its red-capped lantern is the oldest lighthouse in the Bahamas — and believed to be the oldest surviving in all the West Indies. Built in 1817, back when the island was still known as Hog Island, it has guided mariners safely through the northwest entrance to Nassau Harbour for more than two centuries. Keep your eyes on it as you sail in; it's often the very first landmark to greet you as you approach the port. With its weathered charm and sweeping harbor views, it's a living piece of Bahamian maritime history and a favorite for that perfect photograph. (pass by)
