Al JumailAl Jumail, a deserted pearling and fishing settlement located in the northeastern part of Qatar, was established in the 19th century and remained inhabited until the early 20th century, before the petroleum and gas industries triggered an economic transformation. The village's name derives from the Arabic word "jameel," meaning "beautiful," which refers to the trees that thrive in the region year-round. As noted on Wikipedia, in the 1820s, George Barnes Brucks was assigned to conduct the first British survey of the Persian Gulf. He documented Al Jumail in his survey, referring to it as "Yamale."
