The museum opened in 1975, showcases an impressive collection of artifacts primarily from the Middle Kingdom (2055 BC - c. 1650 BC), including pieces from the Theban temples and necropolis. In 2004, the museum was expanded with the "Glory of Thebes" exhibit, which houses remarkable collections from the New Kingdom (1570 - 1050 BC), including two royal mummies of Ahmose I and Ramses I. This small museum showcases a collection of human and animal mummies, as well as the tools and techniques used in the mummification process.
