  • Fortress of Jajce
Your tour begins in the medieval city of Jajce, often celebrated as the "King's City." This historic site is one of the best-preserved fortified capitals of the Bosnian Kingdom, marking the last stronghold before the kingdom fell to the advancing Ottoman Empire. Jajce's rich history is encapsulated in its impressive fortifications and enduring cultural landmarks, making it a captivating first stop on your journey.
  • Catacomb of Jajce
The second stop on your tour is the so-called Catacombs of Jajce, though locals know it better as an underground Christian church rather than a true catacomb. This unique site, carved into a single rock or cave, showcases the late Romanesque style. It stands as a testament to the region's rich religious and architectural heritage. This stop is optional due to its relatively small size. Visitors should be mindful of this when deciding whether to pay the entrance fee.
  • Crkva Sv. Marije Jajce
In the early 15th century, as Jajce became the capital of the Bosnian kingdom, an older Romanesque church from the 12th or 13th century was remodeled into the Gothic style. Upon her marriage to Bosnian heir Stjepan Tomašević in 1459, Jelena Branković brought the relics of St. Luke, purchased by Đurađ Branković from the Ottomans in 1453 for 30,000 ducats. Stjepan Tomašević was crowned here in 1461. Later, during Ottoman rule in 1528, this church was converted into a mosque named after Sultan Suleiman I. It suffered multiple fires, the last in 1832, leaving only its walls.
  • Esma Sultana Mosque
The Esma Sultanija Mosque in Jajce, built in the 15th century, is the only mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina named after a woman. Esma Sultanija, the wife of Bosnian Governor Mehmed Pasha Muhsinović and daughter of Sultan Ahmed III, is commemorated by this mosque. Renowned for its exquisite Islamic art and carvings, it has been declared a national monument.
  • Pliva Waterfall
Pliva Waterfall in Jajce is symbolic for its historical and cultural significance. It marks the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers right at the town's center, showcasing the natural beauty and strategic importance of Jajce through various periods, from medieval times as a royal capital to its prominence during the Ottoman era. The waterfall is also emblematic of Jajce's enduring appeal as a natural landmark in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Mlincici
The Mlincici complex, part of Park Plivsko Jezero near Jajce, consists of charming old watermills set along the Pliva River. These traditional wooden structures, once vital for local grain milling, epitomize rural Bosnian heritage. Surrounded by lush greenery and serene waters, the area offers a picturesque escape into nature and history, reflecting centuries-old practices and the tranquil beauty of the Pliva Lakes region. After exploring, enjoy a lunch break at Pliva Lake.
