The House of the Virgin MaryOur second stop is the sacred House of the Virgin Mary, nestled in the serene Aladağ Mountains, just five miles from ancient Ephesus. According to tradition, Mary journeyed to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D. and spent the final years of her life here until her passing in 48 A.D. Recognized as a holy site, it was declared a place of pilgrimage by the Archbishop of Izmir in 1892. Since then, it has drawn visitors from around the world — including Pope Paul VI, who came here to pray on July 26, 1967.
