Salt FieldsThe salt fields are closed to the ocean, and water is let in from the ocean to the fields. The fields are then blocked from the ocean, and the water is allowed to evaporate, leaving salt crystals. This process is repeated many times. The raw salt is then collected and piled up in warehouses in the salt fields. Then, it's delivered to the salt factory, where it is cleaned, Iodine is added, and packaged in 50 Kilogram bags, for shipment throughout the country. All salt production is done without any machines - all manual work by humans, mostly women.
-
Kep Crab MarketThe best way to experience the market, is to approach any of the vendors on the seaside sidewalk and buy live crabs from pots they pull out of the water. The market ladies also have fresh squid, clams and prawns that can also be cooked up on site and served in plastic bags to your table. After you have chosen your crabs, the ladies will take them away to cook them up for you. Find a seat, crab an Angkor beer and chillax til they are ready. Along with the seafood, you can get an array of freshly made sweets like rice and coconut waffles, fried rice cakes and other unknown treats that are all pretty delicious and cost around $0.25c each.
-
Phnom Chhngok Cave TempleIt is a temple inside the cave that was constructed in 18th century and is also a place of worship of Cambodian. It is a set of caves harbouring some ancient temples and an opportunity to clamber about on the dark, wet rocks inside. The land around Kampot is very fertile and they farm many types of food from rice to peanuts, and pepper to sea salt. You will discover beauty and architect of old temple together with mystery of the cave. Climbing up the cave is an excited experience and you will see beautiful surroundings.
-
La PlantationWe had a really knowledgeable guide who gave us an introduction to the pepper industry and the plantation. He described La Plantation as a social project, set up by Nathalie and Guy, a couple who originated from France and Belgium. Not only do they aim to grow the Kampot pepper industry, but to do so in a sustainable way that offers jobs to local people and finance the primary school in the local area.
-
La PlantationAfter finished visiting at La Plantation, you will take a wonderful experience with buffalo cart on Secret Lake. Taking a water-buffalo pulling cart around the villages is the ideal eco-friendly way to explore and enjoy the local countryside. The Buffaloes will enjoy a stop at the lake to refresh in the water while our guide will explain farming activities including rice culture, harvest, and processing.
If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
