During the reign of Shah Jahan, there was a tree-lined canal running through its centre, reflecting the moon. Hence, the name "Chandni Chowk" came to being which means "Moonlight Square".

Gurudwara Bangla SahibGurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most important & Sacred Sikh Shrine. The grounds include the Gurudwara, a kitchen, a large (holy) pond. As with all Sikh Gurudwara, the concept of Langer (Community Kitchen) is practised, and all people regardless of race or religion may eat in the Gurdwara kitchen (langar hall). The food is prepared by gursikhs & volunteers. At the Gurdwara, visitors are requested to cover their heads and not to wear shoes. Anyone can volunteer in the Gurudwara.
