Rhumerie de ChamarelThe rhumerie of Chamarel has been making its best-selling rum products at its own distillery since 2008. They grow their own sugarcane, which are subsequently harvested by hand and carefully selected for the production of the Chamarel white and old rums. Freshly harvested sugarcane is transferred within four hours to the distillery to preserve its freshness and aromas. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe the distilling process before they taste some of the finest rum, some of which is carefully purified by a special process using the cognac method, which makes it a unique product full of aromas.
-
Enjoy a delicious lunch at ‘L’Alchimiste’ restaurant that specializes in a unique cuisine, prepared with local products sourced from the estate itself. (Located at Chamarel Rhumerie)
-
Chamarel WaterfallsFlowing in the Black River Gorges and originating from the river of St. Denis, the Chamarel Waterfall is the highest one on the island falling from a height of about 83m. You will love the unforgettable visit to the Chamarel Waterfall with its breathtaking location surrounded by lush landscape.
-
Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth GeoparkRenowned as being the most popular tourist attraction of the whole island, the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel is an essential on the list of anyone visiting Mauritius. Origination of volcanic basalt rocks, the rain and sun transformed them into the clay minerals they are today. Due to weather conditions, the rain washed away any water soluble substance leaving only compounds which give the soil its unique colour. The different quantity of these coloured compounds is what results in the soils to have distinctly different colours. What is even more impressive is if you mix the 7 earths together, they will end up separating and re-joining their unique colour.
-
The Chamarel Viewpoint is a family friendly spot for you to get an amazing panoramic view of the whole chamarel village laid beneath your eyes. We recommend you to bring along a pair of sunglasses and a camera, in order to capture the splendid view of the green hilly region as well as an aerial view of Ile Aux Benitiers.
-
The Martello Tower MuseumOur next stop will take us back in time with a visit to ‘Martello Tower’ located on the beach of La Preneuse. The Martello tower was constructed under the British rule of Mauritius as a means of locating any invaders from far and to protect the beach. In the 90s, the tower was converted into a museum demonstrating the weapons which were being used by the British Empire. *On this tour, Martello Tower Museum visit will be on Wednesday and Friday only. During closure, a photo stop will be made instead.

The last place in Mauritius to produce salt by the traditional method, the Tamarin Salt Pans is a place rich in local culture and history. Although all the current modern methods of producing salt, Tamarin salt pans still account for about a third of the salt produced in Mauritius. The salt water is pumped from the sea into large basins covering an area of 30 hectares where they are then left to evaporate. In the early mornings and evenings, experienced workers come and collect the salt cubes before they are crushed into smaller pieces if needed and packaged for use.
-
Albion LighthouseLocated on the west coast of Mauritius, the lighthouse of Albion is an extremely popular destination amongst many tourists as well as locals. Although the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, it is still worthwhile to feast your eyes on one of the rare lighthouses on the island. Several meters after the lighthouse, you will find a viewpoint over the sea to the left of Mauritius. Watch calmly as the strong waves hit the rocks and sprinkle fine drops of water all over the place. Spend a few minutes taking in the natural calm and serenity of the whole setting of this special place.
If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
