The upper cave reveals a forest of stalactites and stalagmites, some over 8 metres tall, built over millions of years. The lower cave is darker, quieter, more intimate — navigated by silent electric boat along an underground river through chambers where the only sound is water falling somewhere in the dark. Byblos CastleArrive in Byblos as the afternoon light falls on honey-coloured stone — the best time to be here. Continuously inhabited for over 7,000 years, Byblos is one of the oldest cities on earth and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Crusader castle was built in the 12th century from Phoenician and Roman stones — you can see the recycled columns and carved blocks in its walls if you know where to look. Inside, the archaeological layers tell the full story: Neolithic foundations, Bronze Age temples, Phoenician royal tombs, Roman streets. Byblos gave the world its alphabet.
