Overview
The trail to Lion’s Head features a screw top design, allowing you to circle the mountain as you ascend. The path includes challenging sections where you'll need to use your hands to scramble over rocks.
- 🧗♂️ The ascent includes a steep climb leading to the first ladder and a traverse along a shelf with a chain handrail.
- 🌲 At a fork, choose between veering left to avoid vertical rock steps or turning right to tackle them directly.
- 🏞️ If avoiding vertical climbs, continue left past large pine trees to reach the crest of the southeast ridge.
- 🌄 The summit offers a 360-degree view and is one of three iconic peaks framing Cape Town, with Table Mountain as a backdrop.
- 💡 A headlamp will be provided when needed for navigating in low light conditions.

Lion's HeadLion’s Head hike has a steep screw top route circling the mountain and takes approximately two hours to complete. You’re getting views in all directions from the vista of the Atlantic coastline to the magnificent Table Mountain twelve Apostles. The trail being rocky in some sections using your hands to scramble over rocks maybe necessary. Rising up 669 meters Lion’s Head summit has a 360 degree view, with Table Mountain as its backdrop. Lion’s Head is situated in one of the smallest floral kingdoms in the world.
