Jaisalmer FortJaisalmer’s fort is a living urban centre, with about 3000 people residing within its walls. It is honeycombed with narrow winding lanes, lined with houses and temples – along with a large number of handicraft shops, guesthouses and restaurants. You enter the fort from the east, near Gopa Chowk, and pass through four massive gates on the zigzagging route to the upper section. The final gate opens into the square that forms the fort’s centre, Dashera Chowk.
-
The biggest fish in the haveli (traditional, ornately decorated residence) pond is Patwa-ki-Haveli, which towers over a narrow lane, its intricate stonework like honey-coloured lace. Divided into five sections, it was built between 1800 and 1860 by five Jain brothers who made their fortunes in brocade and jewellery. It’s all very impressive from the outside; however, the first of the five sections, the privately owned Kothari’s Patwa-ki-Haveli Museum, richly evokes 19th-century life and is the only one worth paying entry for. Other sections include two largely empty government-owned 'museums' and two private sections containing shops.
-
Nathmal Ji Ki HaveliThis beautiful haveli is located in the heart of town in small lanes. Privately owned 19th-century haveli known for ornate exterior carvings & unique architecture.
-
Gadi Sagar lake situated to the south of the city of Jaisalmer. Gadi Sagar a rain-water lake of Jaisalmer, is located amidst calm and cool surroundings. This sylvan lake is surrounded by innumerable temples and holy shrines. The water of this lake is crystal clear. Water sports such as boating can be done in this lake. It holds the water supply of the entire city. Numerous migratory birds can be seen flocking around the lake. There is also a famous Krishna temple built on top of the yellow sandstone gate.
-
Kuldhara Abandoned VillageKuldhara is an abandoned village in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Established around the 13th century, it was once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins.
-
Sam Sand DunesSam or Sam sand dunes is by far Rajasthan number 1 desert dune region, which is visited by more than a million travellers every year. To walk on these dunes & roll down on them gives an immense pleasure, and watching the sunsets here is just like witnessing the great work of god.
