As you leave Kota Kinabalu, the air changes from city haze to the smell of wet earth and durian trees. Descend Class I-II rapids (safe for beginner). Listen to the gurgle of the river, the slap of paddles, and the jungle's call.

Arriving at the riverbank, fitted with a helmet and life jacket, but the real preparation is different here. Before touching a paddle, guide, you learn to read the water: the smooth tongues over rocks, the dark pools called kolong, the whispering eddies. You practice a single J-stroke on a calm backwater until it feels natural

Once on the water, you’ll navigate the Kiulu River’s gentle Class I–II rapids, while enjoying lush rainforest scenery, hanging bridges, and glimpses of local village life. There will be calm stretches where you can float or swim in the refreshing river. After completing the 7–15 km journey (depending on water levels), freshen up at the base camp and end the experience with a hearty riverside lunch before returning with your guide.
