Overview
The Laura Plantation showcases the significant impact of West-African agricultural and construction skills on Louisiana's Creole culture, evident in language, cuisine, music, architecture, and traditions. Established in 1805, this plantation began with seven enslaved individuals and grew to include 186 by the Civil War.
- 🏚️ Four original slave cabins from the 1840s still stand on the plantation.
- 👥 Following emancipation in 1866, many former slaves continued residing in the quarters.
- 🌳 In 1895, descendants of these enslaved individuals were displaced by cypress lumber companies.
- 🕰️ The cabins remained occupied until 1977.
- 👨👩👧👦 Descendants of former slaves still live near the Laura Plantation today.

Laura Plantation is a one hour and ten minute guided tour of the mansion. Travelers will also have a self guided tour of the grounds a viewing slave cabins. Also you can explore the gift shop and grab a quick snack before departure
