Overview
Fiery deaths and watery graves mark the history of this 1.5-mile cemetery walking tour, revealing stories of the peoples who lived in Oregon for millennia alongside more recent events. Ghost stories from both early disasters and modern times are shared along the route.
- 👻 Starting with tales of early disasters, the tour includes ghost stories collected over time.
- 🌊 Deaths range from self-inflicted to those caused by the state or guilt from wealthy individuals.
- 🪦 The route traverses Portland's inner eastside, noted for having experienced more disasters than any other area in the city.
- 📜 The stories reflect a darkness left by ancestors, from the earliest days of written history to contemporary accounts.
- 🚶♂️ Participants should be prepared for a walking tour that covers various historical sites where early settlers are buried.

Return details
We'll end at the cemetery near 26th Avenue. Our guides can help you navigate back to the starting point if necessary.
-
Revolution HallWe will meet at Revolution Hall, a former high school who counted many now-famous people who would lead brilliant but tortured lives as alumni and suffered a tragic fire a century ago.
-
We will walk through the quiet streets of one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in what we now call Portland, telling stories of Portland’s first known witch and women who worked in the sex trade; and stories of seances that swept the city.
-
Lone Fir Pioneer CemeteryWe will enter the Lone Fir cemetery near the section known only as “Block 14,” where mass graves of Chinese immigrants and those who died at the nearby asylum for the insane were buried. After telling some of the stories we know, we will walk through the cemetery, visiting the final resting places of residents that we have heard stories of already, as well as some of the most intense resident deaths; from dramatic drownings to axe murders to suicides.
