Materuni Waterfall day hike from Arusha
Overview
The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania while giving you a bit of a work-out to either prepare your body for the forth coming climb to the highest point of Africa – Kilimanjaro or ease your muscles after the climb.
The tour starts with a walk to Materuni Waterfall. It is an opportunity to see how local fruit including avocados, mangos, lemons and bananas grow, as well as to learn some of the local history, traditions, village economy and cultural life. Upon arrival at the waterfall you can enjoy the natural pool, so don't forget your swim costumes since there is a nice place to swim.
The tour proceeds with a visit to a local village in the coffee plantations. The locals will show some of the processes involved in coffee farming and you will be given the chance to prepare the coffee beans and make your own coffee. Learn more about Chagga women, the way they sing while making coffee and watch a demonstration of the banana beer making process before sampling the local beverage. You will enjoy local food for lunch, a typical Chagga food with rice/pilaf served with varied fruit from the village.
