Plaza Machado features French and Spanish-influenced architecture, and is one of the most attractive plazas in Mazatlan, as well as the main site of social activity in the historic center. The plaza, built in 1837 with money donated by wealthy Filipino merchant Juan Nepomuceno Machado, used to be a popular meeting place in the city. The Monument to the Continuity of Life is a magnificent bronze work by the artist Pedro Jiménez Corona in which a couple can be seen standing on a snail, and in front of them a band of dolphins jumping in the water of a fountain. It symbolizes the beginning, the end and the balance of life, in addition to that respect that you must have towards nature. It can be admired in the Paseo Olas Altas.
