MilosWe either depart 1) from the dock of Platis Gialos marina in Sifnos or 2) from the dock of Pollonia bay in Milos. 1) If we departed from Sifnos then we cruise the strait of Kimolos-Milos, in about 25 minutes we pass the northwest cape of wonderful Poliegos island and head towards the southeastern cape of Milos Island and the famous sulfur mines, we reach it after about 15 minutes. 2) If we departed from Milos then we cruise south from Pollonia and after 5.5 NM and less than 15 minutes we reach the famous sulfur mines.
-
MilosWe anchor and can swim to the beach where we can visit the old mine which was operating until the mid-1950s. It’s a wonderful place and the scenery reminds of a theme from a Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western movies. The sea water is a bit yellow from the sulfur and they say that its very therapeutic! You can visit the old factory where the old machinery is still there. We can spend about 20 minutes there. After we enter the boat, we head southwest towards Gerakas beach which is only accessible with a boat and it’s probably one of the top 5 beaches in the Cycladic islands. The water is simply amazing, and the vibe of the place is incredible. We anchor and we can swim for as long as you like, you can swim to the beach where you can lay on a very soft type of pebbly sand that you simply can’t get enough of it! Usually, we stay there for about an hour, but even more if you like.
-
Tsigrado BeachAfterwards, we enter the boat and keep heading southwest towards Tsigrado beach, the only beach in Milos that people climb a big wooden ladder to visit it. Indeed, a special place. We swim right next to it, and away from the many people that visit the place, in a very secluded spot that fits just one boat and the water is so turquoise. We drop anchor and stay there for about half an hour. After we enter the boat, we keep heading southwest towards Gerontas beach, but just before we get there, we pass a big cave which we enter with the boat and go all the way in. Gerontas beach has a magnificent dark brown and very fine sand with many small “private” kind of beaches throughout the left part of the beach and behind a big rock, where you can jump in the sea from. We drop anchor and can stay there for about another half an hour swimming.
-
Kleftiko BeachAfter we enter the boat, we keep heading southwest towards the famous Kleftiko. This is one of the most photographed landscapes and is famous not just in Greece but worldwide. We can enjoy the group of grey-white rocks of strange shapes and formations, with incredible caves and cavities. We drop anchor in many different spots there and we swim and explore all the caves, where we enter from one location and exit in a different one! We stay at Kleftiko for about an hour and 15 minutes, taking in all the unbelievable beauty that nature created for us to enjoy. Of course, we use our masks and snorkels to explore all the caves! We enter the boat, we start heading north towards Sykia cave, which does not have a roof, the sunbeams come into the cave and make the waters shine. Also, we can see a small beach. We can stop and swim in the emerald waters and see the corals that take different colors depending on the sunbeams that light them. We stay at Sykia cave for about half an hour.
-
Sarakiniko BeachWe enter the boat, we start heading north towards Triades beach, where we also anchor and swim into waters of incredible clarity and a wild scenery, that is because of 9 consecutive beaches one next to each other. We stay there for about half an hour. We keep heading north till we pass the huge entrance of Adamas port of Milos and head northeast till we reach our next anchor stop, the magnificent beach of Sarakiniko, one of the most photographed landscapes of Milos and the Cyclades. We can spend about a whole hour there swimming in deep waters, jumping and diving off the tall, greyish–white cliffs that can have amazing shapes often compared to a moonscape, and enjoy the famous fiords.
-
MilosAfter Sarakiniko, if we wish to have a late lunch/early dinner we can stop by Mandrakia beach and be stunned by the incredible and traditional syrmata houses, each with a different colored door, made to shelter the fishing boats in the winter. There we can have exquisite seafood delicacies in the seaside tavern called Medousa, enjoying a glass of wine (or ouzo), overseeing the amazing scenery of the ever so colorful and rocky sea just under us. We head east towards Pollonia and pass by the Navagio (Shipwreck) and can swim in deep waters and see at approximately 8 – 10 meters below surface level an old shipwreck. Then we pass by Papafragas. It is an impressive place that resembles a huge natural swimming pool, an enormous cave carved out of the cliff’s side. There is also a tiny strip of sand that forms the beach. We can snorkel and enjoy the site and this unique geological phenomenon.
-
Milos2) If we departed from Milos, we keep heading east and enter the port of Pollonia bay and finish off a simply incredible day full of memories that will last a lifetime! 1) If we departed from Sifnos, we keep heading east and check out the beautiful little port of Pollonia where the small ferryboat connects Milos with the island of Kimolos every hour. We then keep heading east, we pass the southeast cape of Kimolos island, then pass outside Psathi which is the port of Kimolos island and turn Northeast towards Sifnos so we can reach Platis Gialos and finish off a simply incredible day full of memories that will last a lifetime!
