Oshino Hakkai is a village known for its eight clear spring water ponds, which are recognized as one of the "Top 100 Famous Waters of Japan." It is classified as a Natural Monument and is part of the Mount Fuji World Heritage Site. The eight ponds are fed by snow melt from the slopes of nearby Mount Fuji. As the water filters down through porous layers of lava for over 80 years, it results in exceptionally clear spring water that the locals deeply value.
