KampalaBegin your day with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. You’ll travel by road to the Entebbe Waterfront Pier, located near the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). The drive takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic.

Lake Victoria Equator EntebbeArrive at the pier and check in for your boat transfer to Ngamba Island. After a short briefing and life jacket fitting, board a speedboat or traditional motorized canoe (depending on your package). The boat ride takes approximately 45 minutes, offering beautiful views of Lake Victoria, fishing boats, and small islands.

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee SanctuaryOn arrival, you’ll be welcomed by the sanctuary staff. A brief orientation session introduces the history of the sanctuary, the chimpanzees’ backstories, and the sanctuary’s conservation mission.

Ngamba IslandProceed to the chimpanzee viewing platform to watch the morning feeding session. This is a special time to observe the chimps as they interact, play, and feed. Sanctuary staff will explain their behavior, hierarchy, and rehabilitation process. After feeding, take a guided tour around the visitor areas, including the chimpanzee night enclosures, interpretation center, and optional boardwalk trails. You may also spot monitor lizards, birds, and lake otters during your walk.

Ngamba IslandJoin a short community visit to a nearby fishing village (if included). Take a nature walk or relax by the lake. Participate in a second feeding session at 2:30 PM (optional and depends on boat schedule). 3:00 PM – Depart Ngamba Island Board your boat and return across Lake Victoria to Entebbe. Enjoy the breeze and views as you reflect on your memorable encounter with the chimpanzees.
